Hwang’s goal explosion in Seoul’s last home game: “Living arrangements? I don’t know”

National striker Hwang Ui-jo (31, Seoul) exploded in his last game for Seoul.

Seoul failed to protect Hwang Ui-jo’s early goal and drew 1-1 with Pohang in the 18th round of the Hana OneQ K League 1 2023 at Seoul World Cup Stadium at 6 p.m. on Nov. 11. Pohang (31 points) remained in second place and Seoul (29 points) in third.

Hwang’s six-month loan with Seoul ends in June. After the match against Pohang, Hwang will play two friendlies for the national team. It was Hwang’s last home game for Seoul. He is expected to return to his original club, Nottingham Forest.

Ahead of the match, Seoul head coach Ahn Ik-soo said, “(Hwang) has done a great job since he came to our team. He has contributed a lot to our team,” but also said, “We don’t have a plan B if he leaves.”

Hwang did not disappoint. In the 37th minute, Hwang dribbled in front of the box and fired a right-footed shot between two defenders. The shot found the top right corner for the first goal. The goalkeeper was helpless to stop it.

In 17 games, Hwang has four goals and two assists. It’s not the kind of goal the international striker is known for, but he’s a big part of Seoul’s rise to the top of the table. Hwang was not satisfied with the goal against Pohang and continued to threaten, but was unable to add to his tally.

After the game, Hwang said, “It’s too bad. I missed the man-to-man in the corner kick situation. It’s a shame. I’m happy that we didn’t lose and got a point.”안전놀이터

On his goal, Hwang said, “I tried to take as many shots as possible. I had a chance and took a shot, and it was lucky to go in. I really wanted to win at home, and it could have been my last home game. I’m very disappointed. I’m very disappointed that we drew due to a lapse in concentration at the end.”

Seoul fans hoped that Hwang would stay, hanging signs saying “Don’t go!” and “Stay with us.” Hwang said, “I don’t know where I’m going. I don’t really know anything. When I first came to Seoul, they gave me a lot of love. I tried harder. Thank you, Seoul fans,” he said to his fans.
