San Diego Padres infielder Ha-Sung Kim made his return from injury. He showed good form with a two-run double, but the team lost in extra innings.
San Diego fell 2-3 in 10 extra innings against the New York Yankees in the 2023 Major League Baseball World Series at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, N.Y., on Aug. 28.
Kim complained of pain after being hit in the left knee by his own foul ball against the Washington Nationals on April 26. The injury was so serious that he was called to the trainer’s station, but fortunately, the bruise didn’t keep him out for long.
On July 27 against the Yankees, Kim returned with one day of rest and started at shortstop and batted eighth, going 1-for-3 with a double, one RBI and one walk. His season batting average rose slightly from 2-for-3 to 2-for-9.
In his first at-bat after the top of the third inning with his team trailing 1-0, he struck out. Instead, on defense, DJ LeMahieu doubled with runners on first and third in the bottom of the inning and it looked like two runs were on the board, but Kim made an accurate and quick relay play to catch Rizzo trying to steal home.
Kim drew a walk with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth inning after Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a solo home run to make it 1-1. He didn’t get a follow-up hit and didn’t advance any further. The defense came through again in the bottom of the fifth. He got a good grip on Kainer Palepa’s hard-hit line drive and made a difficult one-turn throw to first base for the final out.안전놀이터
Kim came up big in his third at-bat of the seventh inning. With runners on first and second, he lined a single to left off Yankees reliever Michael King. After giving up a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the seventh, he gave up a game-tying RBI single to Isaiah Kainer-Palepa in the 10th inning of extra innings.
