Frank McAnerney has criticized Manchester United’s reported interest in Neymar, 31, of Paris Saint-Germain.
Neymar left Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in 2017. At the time, PSG pulled off a shock signing that set a record for the most expensive transfer in soccer history at €222 million.
However, Neymar hasn’t lived up to the hype. He’s been sidelined by frequent injuries and his performances have been up and down. As a result, PSG fans have become increasingly vocal in their criticism of Neymar, and the divide is growing.
Neymar’s contract with PSG runs until June 2025. He still has a few years left on his contract, but there have been reports that he could leave the club this season due to his poor form. Manchester United has been mentioned as a possible new destination.
According to French publication L’Equipe, “Neymar has been linked to a number of English Premier League (EPL) clubs. In recent days, United have been the closest to discussing a transfer.” The Red Devils, who are looking to compete for the title next season, are keen to bolster their attacking line with the signing of Neymar.안전놀이터
McAuerney, who previously played for West Ham, has argued against United’s pursuit of Neymar, citing Cristiano Ronaldo as an example. “It could create a serious problem for United,” McAnerney told the UK’s Football Insider on Monday (Aug. 28).
“United didn’t have a locker room atmosphere when Ronaldo was there,” he said. Neymar, like Ronaldo, is hungry to win. Neymar will only want players who follow him and that’s something that should never happen again at United,” he said, pointing to over-competitiveness.
