Reporter Choi Young-soo = Kim Young-kwon, who played a decisive role in Korea’s advancement to the round of 16 at the 2022 Qatar World Cup, visited his alma mater, Jeonju Technical High School in Jeonbuk-si, Jeonbuk on the 6th and was greatly welcomed by his juniors.
The juniors clapped their hands loudly and shouted ‘Kim Young-kwon, Kim Young-kwon’ when the scene of Kim Young-gwon scoring goals in the 2018 World Cup Germany and 2022 World Cup Portugal matches appeared one after another through the large screen prepared by the school in the auditorium.
In response, Kim bowed his head deeply and expressed his gratitude to his juniors for their hospitality.
The school and alumni presented Kim with a plaque of appreciation for his contribution to shining Jeonju Technical High School.
He grabbed the microphone and said, “(High school) was the hardest time while playing soccer, but I tried a lot to overcome it and overcame it through exercise. You have to live,” he said.
He then asked, “Please continue to support Korean soccer and the Jeonju Technical High School soccer team.”
When asked by a junior in the soccer club about the qualities needed to become a good soccer player, he replied, “I think it is character.

Kim Young-kwon graduated from Jochoncho, Haesung Middle School, and Jeonju Technical High School in Jeonju, completed two years at Jeonju University, and played in the Japanese J-League and Chinese Super League before moving to Ulsan Hyundai in 2021.
He made a decisive contribution to Korea’s advance to the round of 16 by scoring an equalizer in the first half against Portugal at the Qatar World Cup.
